Resident Evil Revelations 2

Sumthing Else Music Works, through its licensing relationship with Capcom, today announced that the official soundtrack for Resident Evil® Revelations 2 is now available for digital download from Sumthing.com and other major digital music sites. The Resident Evil® Revelations 2 Original Soundtrack features over three hours of original score from Capcom’s new entry in the ground-breaking survival horror video game series which has sold over 50 million units worldwide.

Defining a new musical direction for the series, the original score for Resident Evil Revelations 2 was created and supervised by Capcom’s composer and sound director Kota Suzuki (Resident Evil® Revelations, Resident Evil® 6, Resident Evil® 5) in collaboration with film composer and multi-instrumentalist Nima Fakhrara (“Gatchaman,” “The Pyramid,” “The Courier”) as well as composer and sound designer Ichiro Kohmoto (Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil® 0). The soundtrack was produced by Koyo Sonae. Music samples are available at Sumthing.com.

“Our main theme of focus was ‘duality of sound’ implemented through original instruments,” describes Kota Suzuki, composer and sound director of the Resident Evil® series. “We assembled this compilation with two distinct genres of sound in mind. Aiming for the overall music to deliver a broad, airy feel, while at the same time introducing acoustic instruments to create gaps within the sound, the composition reduces how quickly players grow accustomed to the music, and allows for sound effects to easily create the game’s desired atmosphere.”

Describing Capcom’s collaboration with Nima Fakhrara, a film composer renowned for creating unique instruments as the basis for his original scores, Kota Suzuki added, “We always kept aiming to provide players with a new sense of suspense and surprise with this installation. His productions possessed that particular element of darkness that worked perfectly with our[s]. After many brainstorming sessions we decided to use ‘iron’ and ‘water’ as our concepts in creating new instruments. And, after recording, we edited and mixed the sound with other tracks to create a truly unique sound…His touch was exactly what we needed to give our sound the definitive edge.”

The beginning of the Resident Evil Revelations 2 tale sees fan favorite Claire Redfield make a dramatic return. Survivor of the Raccoon City incident depicted in previous Resident Evil® games, Claire now works for the anti-bioterrorism organization Terra Save. She and Moira Burton are attending a company party for Terra Save when unknown armed forces storm the office, capture Claire and Moira and take them to a dark and abandoned detention facility on a mysterious island. Headed for the remote island in search of his missing daughter, Barry Burton meets brand new character Natalia Korda, a little girl who has a strange power that allows her to sense enemies and hidden items. Using this skill alongside Barry’s proven combat abilities, players will need to alternate between the two to survive the mysterious island and find Moira. With terrifying enemies waiting around every dark corner, players will need to use their ammo and weapon supply wisely, in classic survival horror style.

Evolving the episodic chapter set-up of the original Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Revelations 2 initially released as a weekly series of four episodic downloads beginning on February 24, 2015. A full digital download option of the Complete Season is currently available to ensure fans can get access to all individual episodes now. Each episode in Resident Evil Revelations 2 includes Raid Mode content and two full playable scenarios focused on the Claire and Moira storyline as well as the Barry and Natalia campaign. The full retail disc version, including all individual episodes and all additional game content, is available now across North America.

The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter

Sumthing Else Music Works today announced the worldwide digital release of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Original Soundtrack featuring the original score from the breathtakingly atmospheric first-person mystery game focused on exploration and discovery. Created by jazz and classically-trained Polish composer Mikolai Stroinski (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dark Souls 2 trailer), the game’s evocative music soundtrack will be available digitally from Sumthing.com, iTunes, Amazon and other digital music sites on January 27.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter soundtrack has garnered numerous accolades for its immersive and ethereal emotional quality including nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition at the 18th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards and Best Audio at the 15th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

Describing his process for finding the musical voice for Ethan Carter, Mikolai Stroinski explains, “I’m a pianist. Through improvisation I was trying to come up with a central theme that would capture the story of Ethan Carter. I was planning on orchestrating it once approved. As it turned out, The Astronauts loved it so much they didn’t want to add anything. And so it stayed. If you listen closely to the melodic pieces from the score, you will notice that each one is a variation of ‘Ethan’s Theme’. It borrows either the melodic shape, or the rhythms or the distinguishing melodic intervals.”

Developed by Polish indie game development studio The Astronauts, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a “weird fiction” horror focused on atmosphere, mood and the essential humanity of its characters. With its mixture of a beautiful world with the haunting and macabre, the game is catered to immersive storytelling for adult players.

You play as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home of Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul quickly discerns might not be the only local murder worth looking into.

Experience in non-linear fashion, a story that combines the pleasures of pulp, private eye and horror fiction inspired by writers such as Raymond Chandler, Algernon Blackwood, Stefan Grabiński, and H. P. Lovecraft. Explore and interact with the beautiful yet ominous world of Red Creek Valley, which was created with the use of revolutionary photogrammetry technology that allows for nearly photorealistic environments.

ACU_OST_Vol2

Rising star composer Sarah Schachner (Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Far Cry 3, Lazarus) returns to Ubisoft’s flagship series Assassin’s Creed to score the combat, co-op and multiplayer music for this year’s most anticipated next-gen blockbuster title, Assassin’s Creed® Unity, a new epic adventure set within Paris during the French Revolution. The soundtrack is now available digitally through Ubisoft Music and will also be released on limited edition vinyl. 4 full-length tracks are available to preview on Soundcloud.

Schachner combines her dynamic talents as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, voice) and modular synth artist/programmer to create a unique classical soundscape infused with analog pulses. “The French revolution was an interesting time musically because it was at the beginning of the classical period but there was still some crossover from the baroque era,” explains Schachner. “The missions at Versailles, for instance, reflect more of the overly flourished baroque sound that the aristocracy was reluctant to let go of.”

Sarah Schachner’s action-driven score for Assassin’s Creed® Unity immerses players in the time period during which the action takes place but also reflects the game’s overarching modern sci-fi element. “The combat music in Unity needed to strike a balance between the methodical and calculated chamber sound of the era while also encompassing the passion and struggle that was at the center of the revolution,” continues Schachner. “As always with the franchise, the player is periodically reminded of the sci-fi modern Abstergo element with low gritty analog synth pulses weaving in and out of the classical soundscape.”

Sarah’s previous scoring credits include arranging and composing additional music for Brian Tyler on various cinematic projects such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Far Cry 3, Now You See Me, Iron Man 3 and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, which was nominated for a 2014 BAFTA Award for Best Original Music. Her upcoming projects include the Lionsgate horror thriller Lazarus produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Purge) and starring Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger. Lazarus premieres in US theaters January 2015.

Set in a once-magnificent Paris, Assassin’s Creed Unity plunges into the terror of the 1789 French Revolution and features the most dense and immersive Assassin’s Creed city ever created. Through the streets of Paris, the starving inhabitants are set to take up arms for freedom and equality. In this time of chaos and brutality, a young man named Arno, wounded by the loss of those he loved, sets on a deadly path of redemption. Arno’s pursuit throws him into the middle of a ruthless struggle for the fate of a nation, and transforms him into a true Master Assassin.

Assassin’s Creed® Unity is on November 11 in the US and on November 13 in Europe. For more information visit www.assassinscreed.com.

INTERNATIONAL VIDEO GAME MUSIC CONFERENCE
RETURNS TO SOUTHBANK CENTRE, LONDON ON SEPTEMBER 24

Game Music Connect

FEATURING COMPOSERS OF INDIE GAMES “EVERYBODY’S GONE TO THE RAPTURE“,
DEAR ESTHER“, “VOLUME“, “THOMAS WAS ALONE“, “BOUND BY FLAME“, “HAROLD

OPENING KEYNOTE FROM ELECTRONIC ARTS’ WORLDWIDE EXECUTIVE OF MUSIC

Game Music Connect organizers today revealed several sessions for the second annual international video game music conference which returns to The Purcell Room at London’s Southbank Centre on September 24. Game Music Connect is for aspiring and professional composers of all backgrounds and those interested in learning about the art and craft of creating today’s cutting edge video game soundtracks. Featuring interviews, practical demonstrations and roundtable discussions with some of the world’s leading composers, music supervisors and audio directors, tickets are available at www.gamemusicconnect.com.

The first sessions to be announced for Game Music Connect 2014 include:

“VISION TALK”
Inspiration, celebration, future vision.
Videogame music executives don’t rank any higher than Electronic Arts’ Steve Schnur who speaks from a truly global world view of original and licensed videogame music content – a vista he has significantly influenced through his own activities for EA since migrating from the music business. Uniquely qualified to comment on scoring for games, he will celebrate the role of music in today’s interactive entertainment and explore the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Speaker: Steve Schnur (Worldwide Executive, Music & Marketing, Electronic Arts)

“INDIE GAMES – REVOLUTION OR RENAISSANCE?”
With audio and music productions for mobile and tablet games being nominated for BAFTA awards alongside huge big-budget console titles, many view the ‘indie sector’ as a hotbed of creativity and artistic expression. Interesting. Is it a brave new world – or actually an echo of the games business before the advent of the risk-averse blockbuster sequel? Is it a spawning ground for new ideas and artistic expression? If so, why? Greater individual creative autonomy? Can technology and budget constraints sometimes stimulate flashes of genius? Our experts will discuss the issues, explode the myths and postulate about future developments.

Speakers:
Jessica Curry (Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Dear Esther)
Olivier Derivière (Harold, Bound By Flame)
David Housden (Volume, Thomas Was Alone)
Chairs: John Broomhall and James Hannigan

“GAME MUSIC REACT 2014!”
Interactive music case studies and discussion of design through to implementation.
Interactive music proved a popular topic at last year’s Game Music Connect, so we’re back with more case studies exploring how music can be conceived, scored and structurally delivered to facilitate both variation and reactive replay behaviours. The session will examine techniques that mitigate the challenges of scoring for inherently unpredictable gameplay where the length of time spent in scenes, and the timing of events within them is indeterminate. How do game teams avoid annoying music repetition and make music respond to the action, akin to how a movie score might function?

Speakers:
Jason Graves (Tomb Raider, Dead Space series)
Olivier Derivière (Assassin’s Creed IV Freedom Cry, Remember Me, Alone In The Dark)
James Hannigan (Transformers: Universe, Dead Space 3, RuneScape 3)
Tom Colvin (Audio Lead - Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, DmC: Devil May Cry)
Chair: Richard Jacques (LittleBigPlanet 3, James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Mass Effect)

More sessions will be announced in the very near future. For all sessions announced today and in the future, visit www.gamemusicconnect.com.

Game Music Connect is created by BAFTA and IFMCA award-winning composer James Hannigan (Command & Conquer and Harry Potter series) and noted game audio director, composer and industry commentator John Broomhall (Forza Motorsport 5, Transport Tycoon), to celebrate and explore the music of video games together with the extraordinary talent behind it. Game Music Connect 2014 is proud to be sponsored by Sony PlayStation, Electronic Arts, COOL Music and Classic FM. Enemy Front

World premiere symphonic performance of Cris Velasco’s World War II score announced for PlayFest Music, Animation & Video Game Festival

Cris Velasco‘s original score for the new first-person shooter action game set during World War II, ENEMY FRONT, will premiere in concert at the third annual PlayFest — Music, Animation and Videogames Festival in Spain, scheduled to take place in the ancient city of Fuengirola in Málaga from September 11-14, 2014.

“We’re honored to premiere Cris Velasco’s music for Enemy Front at the 2014 PlayFest symphonic concert,” announced the festival’s director David Doncel Barthe. “A dramatic, dark and mature soundtrack, reminiscent of ’60s and ’70s war genre film music, Enemy Front is a breath of fresh air which breaks with current conventions. Velasco’s score for Enemy Front is a canto for the World War II resistance operations; A song of honor, humanity and courage.”

Developed and published by CI Games and distributed by BANDAI NAMCO Games America, Inc., ENEMY FRONT is the first truly modern WW2 FPS, featuring stunning visuals and a richly interactive combat sandbox gameplay experience. Set against the visceral backdrop of breathtaking European locales, players take on the role of American war correspondent Robert Hawkins, as he fights hand in hand with Resistance Fighters opposing the Nazi juggernaut in France, Germany, Norway, and during the Warsaw Uprising.

Inspired by the profound heroism and sacrifices of ‘The Greatest Generation,’ Velasco’s dramatic original score for ENEMY FRONT is perhaps his most emotional, inventive and powerful opus to date. “At its core, ENEMY FRONT is a story of redemption and survival,” said Velasco. “This gave me an opportunity to write the score as more of an emotional journey, rather than a typical combat score. The Warsaw Uprising is something that hasn’t been addressed in games like this before so I felt a responsibility to do it justice. I was honored to be asked to provide the music and I truly hope everyone enjoys the music as much as I enjoyed writing it.”

A prolific and versatile composer, Cris Velasco has become one of the most sought-after composers in interactive entertainment, scoring many major titles including Company of Heroes 2, Mass Effect 3, God of War Trilogy, Darksiders and Borderlands 1&2. Velasco’s music is performed in symphony concerts worldwide and has received numerous accolades including “Best Original Score” from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, “Best Original Music” nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, NBC News’ “Best Video Game Music of the Year,” GameTrailers’ “Best Soundtrack of the Year” and IGN’s “People’s Choice Award – Best Overall Music.”

ENEMY FRONT will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on June 10 in North America and June 13 in Europe. For more information visit www.enemyfront.com.

Murdered: Soul Suspect

Two-time British Academy of Film and Television Arts award-winning American composer Jason Graves (Tomb Raider, Dead Space) provides an intense, modern cinematic score for MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT, the supernatural detective thriller video game from Airtight Games and SQUARE ENIX.

Winner of ten E3 Awards, MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT takes players into a whole new realm of mystery where the case is personal and the clues just out of reach.  A new take on the action/adventure genre, MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT challenges players to solve possibly the hardest case of all…their own murder.

Renowned for his sophisticated composition style, unique musical textures and cinematic orchestral writing for blockbuster franchises such as Tomb Raider (“One of the must-own soundtracks of 2013” – Forbes) and Dead Space (“A Master of Horror” – The New York Post), Jason Graves also composes for film and television including the upcoming feature films Adrenaline and Unknown Caller.

Graves’ masterful atmospheric score for MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT illustrates the game’s story and character arcs through a visceral hybrid approach, combining themes and textures performed by live string quartet with found sounds and experimental percussion.

MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT sees players take the role of Ronan O’Connor, a detective with a checkered past, whose life is brought to an untimely end by a brutal and relentless killer. Unable to move on and stuck in the limbo world of Dusk, he won’t find peace until he can bring his killer to justice from the afterlife. Using his new-found supernatural abilities, Ronan is free to explore the town of Salem, Massachusetts, from his shadowy afterlife. Unable to communicate with the detectives on his case, Ronan must read the minds of the living, influencing their thoughts and actions. As part of his investigation, he must interrogate the ghosts of Salem’s past citizens to piece together the puzzle, while battling demonic spirits to save his soul and uncover the shocking truth about who is responsible for his death.

MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT releases June 3 in North America and June 6 in Europe on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360.
