Assassin’s Creed® soundtracks to be issued on physical formats from September 25; Publisher-label deal also includes Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman®, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Original Game Soundtracks.

Sumthing Else Music Works, the premier record label dedicated to releasing video game soundtracks, today announced that it has entered into a multiple-title licensing agreement with Ubisoft, to release physical editions of the original soundtracks from blockbuster video game franchises Assassin’s Creed®, Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman® and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®.

“We’re excited to be working with Ubisoft in bringing their physical product and lineup of artists and titles to the worldwide marketplace,” said Andy Uterano, President of Sumthing Else Music Works.

Under terms of the agreement Sumthing Else will issue Ubisoft’s music catalog on CD and select titles on vinyl, commencing with the original soundtracks from its historical action-adventure series Assassin’s Creed® on September 25.  Featuring the music of BAFTA award-winning, Billboard and MTV Video Music Awards nominated composer Jesper Kyd and Grammy award-winning, Emmy and BAFTA nominated composer Lorne Balfe, the first physical soundtracks to be released include:

BAFTA winning composer Jesper Kyd’s immersive soundtrack evokes the medieval Middle-Eastern setting. Set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart, Assassin’s Creed enables players to become truly immersed into the mindset of Altaïr, the game’s main character, and the rich environments of the game through Jesper Kyd’s thematic original score. The combination of cinematic compositions with Middle-Eastern acoustic instruments and vocal performances, featuring full choir and soloists, delivers a deeply meditative and spiritual aesthetic.

Assassin’s Creed II features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance. To reflect the change in character, story and setting for Assassin’s Creed II, Jesper Kyd took the music in an adventurous and dramatic new direction, crafting a melodic, acoustic and progressive musical palette. The music propels the action, captures the allure and mystery of the story and immerses players in the breathtakingly detailed settings. Kyd’s multi-award winning Renaissance-inspired score features the series’ iconic theme, “Ezio’s Family”.

The third iteration in the critically acclaimed series, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood was inspired by historical events during the occupation of Rome by The Borgias in 1503. “Researching the history of the Borgia Family it became clear early on that Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood would require a very dark score in order to match the Borgias’ aspirations to become the rulers of Italy. The music follows the compelling story of Ezio as a Master Assassin going up against The Borgias.” – Jesper Kyd

In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Master Assassin Ezio Auditore walks in the footsteps of the legendary mentor Altaïr, on a journey of discovery and revelation. Introducing the “Assassin’s Creed Theme”, cut-scenes and multiplayer music by Grammy winning composer/producer Lorne Balfe, recorded with a full live orchestra, and featuring a rich, evocative hybrid in-game music score by Jesper Kyd drawing on Greek, Renaissance and Middle-Eastern instrumentation, combining his emotional melodic writing and acoustic/electronic styles associated with the series.

Assassin’s Creed III invited players to experience the untold story of the American Revolution through the eyes of a new Assassin, Connor.  Designed from the ground up, Assassin’s Creed III takes one of gaming’s most beloved franchises to new heights with Lorne Balfe returning to helm the original score.  “I wanted to create an epic feeling that would complement the grandeur of the visuals. This was the beginning of America as we know it today – filled with cultures from across the world. With such diversity available, I was able to bring Celtic and other musical influences into the game to further accentuate the complexities of the game itself.” – Lorne Balfe

The remaining Assassin’s Creed original soundtracks will be released on CD in October and select titles on vinyl in 2016:

  • Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Original Game Soundtrack – Music by Brian Tyler
  • Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Game Soundtrack Sea Shanty Edition – Various Artists
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity Original Soundtrack Volumes 1 & 2 (2-CD) – Music by Chris Tilton and Sarah Schachner

The licensing deal announced today also includes physical releases for the Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman® and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® soundtracks – release dates to be announced.

Resident Evil Revelations 2

Sumthing Else Music Works, through its licensing relationship with Capcom, today announced that the official soundtrack for Resident Evil® Revelations 2 is now available for digital download from and other major digital music sites. The Resident Evil® Revelations 2 Original Soundtrack features over three hours of original score from Capcom’s new entry in the ground-breaking survival horror video game series which has sold over 50 million units worldwide.

Defining a new musical direction for the series, the original score for Resident Evil Revelations 2 was created and supervised by Capcom’s composer and sound director Kota Suzuki (Resident Evil® Revelations, Resident Evil® 6, Resident Evil® 5) in collaboration with film composer and multi-instrumentalist Nima Fakhrara (“Gatchaman,” “The Pyramid,” “The Courier”) as well as composer and sound designer Ichiro Kohmoto (Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil® 0). The soundtrack was produced by Koyo Sonae. Music samples are available at

“Our main theme of focus was ‘duality of sound’ implemented through original instruments,” describes Kota Suzuki, composer and sound director of the Resident Evil® series. “We assembled this compilation with two distinct genres of sound in mind. Aiming for the overall music to deliver a broad, airy feel, while at the same time introducing acoustic instruments to create gaps within the sound, the composition reduces how quickly players grow accustomed to the music, and allows for sound effects to easily create the game’s desired atmosphere.”

Describing Capcom’s collaboration with Nima Fakhrara, a film composer renowned for creating unique instruments as the basis for his original scores, Kota Suzuki added, “We always kept aiming to provide players with a new sense of suspense and surprise with this installation. His productions possessed that particular element of darkness that worked perfectly with our[s]. After many brainstorming sessions we decided to use ‘iron’ and ‘water’ as our concepts in creating new instruments. And, after recording, we edited and mixed the sound with other tracks to create a truly unique sound…His touch was exactly what we needed to give our sound the definitive edge.”

The beginning of the Resident Evil Revelations 2 tale sees fan favorite Claire Redfield make a dramatic return. Survivor of the Raccoon City incident depicted in previous Resident Evil® games, Claire now works for the anti-bioterrorism organization Terra Save. She and Moira Burton are attending a company party for Terra Save when unknown armed forces storm the office, capture Claire and Moira and take them to a dark and abandoned detention facility on a mysterious island. Headed for the remote island in search of his missing daughter, Barry Burton meets brand new character Natalia Korda, a little girl who has a strange power that allows her to sense enemies and hidden items. Using this skill alongside Barry’s proven combat abilities, players will need to alternate between the two to survive the mysterious island and find Moira. With terrifying enemies waiting around every dark corner, players will need to use their ammo and weapon supply wisely, in classic survival horror style.

Evolving the episodic chapter set-up of the original Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Revelations 2 initially released as a weekly series of four episodic downloads beginning on February 24, 2015. A full digital download option of the Complete Season is currently available to ensure fans can get access to all individual episodes now. Each episode in Resident Evil Revelations 2 includes Raid Mode content and two full playable scenarios focused on the Claire and Moira storyline as well as the Barry and Natalia campaign. The full retail disc version, including all individual episodes and all additional game content, is available now across North America.

The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter

Sumthing Else Music Works today announced the worldwide digital release of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Original Soundtrack featuring the original score from the breathtakingly atmospheric first-person mystery game focused on exploration and discovery. Created by jazz and classically-trained Polish composer Mikolai Stroinski (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dark Souls 2 trailer), the game’s evocative music soundtrack will be available digitally from, iTunes, Amazon and other digital music sites on January 27.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter soundtrack has garnered numerous accolades for its immersive and ethereal emotional quality including nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition at the 18th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards and Best Audio at the 15th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

Describing his process for finding the musical voice for Ethan Carter, Mikolai Stroinski explains, “I’m a pianist. Through improvisation I was trying to come up with a central theme that would capture the story of Ethan Carter. I was planning on orchestrating it once approved. As it turned out, The Astronauts loved it so much they didn’t want to add anything. And so it stayed. If you listen closely to the melodic pieces from the score, you will notice that each one is a variation of ‘Ethan’s Theme’. It borrows either the melodic shape, or the rhythms or the distinguishing melodic intervals.”

Developed by Polish indie game development studio The Astronauts, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a “weird fiction” horror focused on atmosphere, mood and the essential humanity of its characters. With its mixture of a beautiful world with the haunting and macabre, the game is catered to immersive storytelling for adult players.

You play as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home of Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul quickly discerns might not be the only local murder worth looking into.

Experience in non-linear fashion, a story that combines the pleasures of pulp, private eye and horror fiction inspired by writers such as Raymond Chandler, Algernon Blackwood, Stefan Grabiński, and H. P. Lovecraft. Explore and interact with the beautiful yet ominous world of Red Creek Valley, which was created with the use of revolutionary photogrammetry technology that allows for nearly photorealistic environments.

Rising star composer Sarah Schachner (Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Far Cry 3, Lazarus) returns to Ubisoft’s flagship series Assassin’s Creed to score the combat, co-op and multiplayer music for this year’s most anticipated next-gen blockbuster title, Assassin’s Creed® Unity, a new epic adventure set within Paris during the French Revolution. The soundtrack is now available digitally through Ubisoft Music and will also be released on limited edition vinyl. 4 full-length tracks are available to preview on Soundcloud.

Schachner combines her dynamic talents as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, voice) and modular synth artist/programmer to create a unique classical soundscape infused with analog pulses. “The French revolution was an interesting time musically because it was at the beginning of the classical period but there was still some crossover from the baroque era,” explains Schachner. “The missions at Versailles, for instance, reflect more of the overly flourished baroque sound that the aristocracy was reluctant to let go of.”

Sarah Schachner’s action-driven score for Assassin’s Creed® Unity immerses players in the time period during which the action takes place but also reflects the game’s overarching modern sci-fi element. “The combat music in Unity needed to strike a balance between the methodical and calculated chamber sound of the era while also encompassing the passion and struggle that was at the center of the revolution,” continues Schachner. “As always with the franchise, the player is periodically reminded of the sci-fi modern Abstergo element with low gritty analog synth pulses weaving in and out of the classical soundscape.”

Sarah’s previous scoring credits include arranging and composing additional music for Brian Tyler on various cinematic projects such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Far Cry 3, Now You See Me, Iron Man 3 and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, which was nominated for a 2014 BAFTA Award for Best Original Music. Her upcoming projects include the Lionsgate horror thriller Lazarus produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Purge) and starring Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger. Lazarus premieres in US theaters January 2015.

Set in a once-magnificent Paris, Assassin’s Creed Unity plunges into the terror of the 1789 French Revolution and features the most dense and immersive Assassin’s Creed city ever created. Through the streets of Paris, the starving inhabitants are set to take up arms for freedom and equality. In this time of chaos and brutality, a young man named Arno, wounded by the loss of those he loved, sets on a deadly path of redemption. Arno’s pursuit throws him into the middle of a ruthless struggle for the fate of a nation, and transforms him into a true Master Assassin.

Assassin’s Creed® Unity is on November 11 in the US and on November 13 in Europe. For more information visit
