Rising star composer Sarah Schachner (Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Far Cry 3, Lazarus) returns to Ubisoft’s flagship series Assassin’s Creed to score the combat, co-op and multiplayer music for this year’s most anticipated next-gen blockbuster title, Assassin’s Creed® Unity, a new epic adventure set within Paris during the French Revolution. The soundtrack is now available digitally through Ubisoft Music and will also be released on limited edition vinyl. 4 full-length tracks are available to preview on Soundcloud.

Schachner combines her dynamic talents as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, voice) and modular synth artist/programmer to create a unique classical soundscape infused with analog pulses. “The French revolution was an interesting time musically because it was at the beginning of the classical period but there was still some crossover from the baroque era,” explains Schachner. “The missions at Versailles, for instance, reflect more of the overly flourished baroque sound that the aristocracy was reluctant to let go of.”

Sarah Schachner’s action-driven score for Assassin’s Creed® Unity immerses players in the time period during which the action takes place but also reflects the game’s overarching modern sci-fi element. “The combat music in Unity needed to strike a balance between the methodical and calculated chamber sound of the era while also encompassing the passion and struggle that was at the center of the revolution,” continues Schachner. “As always with the franchise, the player is periodically reminded of the sci-fi modern Abstergo element with low gritty analog synth pulses weaving in and out of the classical soundscape.”

Sarah’s previous scoring credits include arranging and composing additional music for Brian Tyler on various cinematic projects such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Far Cry 3, Now You See Me, Iron Man 3 and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, which was nominated for a 2014 BAFTA Award for Best Original Music. Her upcoming projects include the Lionsgate horror thriller Lazarus produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Purge) and starring Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger. Lazarus premieres in US theaters January 2015.

Set in a once-magnificent Paris, Assassin’s Creed Unity plunges into the terror of the 1789 French Revolution and features the most dense and immersive Assassin’s Creed city ever created. Through the streets of Paris, the starving inhabitants are set to take up arms for freedom and equality. In this time of chaos and brutality, a young man named Arno, wounded by the loss of those he loved, sets on a deadly path of redemption. Interactive music proved a popular topic at last year’s Game Music Connect, so we’re back with more case studies exploring how music can be conceived, scored and structurally delivered to facilitate both variation and reactive replay behaviours. The session will examine techniques that mitigate the challenges of scoring for inherently unpredictable gameplay where the length of time spent in scenes, and the timing of events within them is indeterminate. How do game teams avoid annoying music repetition and make music respond to the action, akin to how a movie score might function?

 World premiere symphonic performance of Cris Velasco’s World War II score announced for PlayFest Music, Animation & Video Game Festival

Cris Velasco‘s original score for the new first-person shooter action game set during World War II, ENEMY FRONT, will premiere in concert at the third annual PlayFest — Music, Animation and Videogames Festival in Spain, scheduled to take place in the ancient city of Fuengirola in Málaga from September 11-14, 2014.

“We’re honored to premiere Cris Velasco’s music for Enemy Front at the 2014 PlayFest symphonic concert,” announced the festival’s director David Doncel Barthe. “A dramatic, dark and mature soundtrack, reminiscent of ’60s and ’70s war genre film music, Enemy Front is a breath of fresh air which breaks with current conventions. Velasco’s score for Enemy Front is a canto for the World War II resistance operations; A song of honor, humanity and courage.”

Developed and published by CI Games and distributed by BANDAI NAMCO Games America, Inc., ENEMY FRONT is the first truly modern WW2 FPS, featuring stunning visuals and a richly interactive combat sandbox gameplay experience. Set against the visceral backdrop of breathtaking European locales, players take on the role of American war correspondent Robert Hawkins, as he fights hand in hand with Resistance Fighters opposing the Nazi juggernaut in France, Germany, Norway, and during the Warsaw Uprising.

Inspired by the profound heroism and sacrifices of ‘The Greatest Generation,’ Velasco’s dramatic original score for ENEMY FRONT is perhaps his most emotional, inventive and powerful opus to date. “At its core, ENEMY FRONT is a story of redemption and survival,” said Velasco. “This gave me an opportunity to write the score as more of an emotional journey, rather than a typical combat score. The Warsaw Uprising is something that hasn’t been addressed in games like this before so I felt a responsibility to do it justice. I was honored to be asked to provide the music and I truly hope everyone enjoys the music as much as I enjoyed writing it.”

A prolific and versatile composer, Cris Velasco has become one of the most sought-after composers in interactive entertainment, scoring many major titles including Company of Heroes 2, Mass Effect 3, God of War Trilogy, Darksiders and Borderlands 1&2. Murdered: Soul Suspect

Two-time British Academy of Film and Television Arts award-winning American composer Jason Graves (Tomb Raider, Dead Space) provides an intense, modern cinematic score for MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT, the supernatural detective thriller video game from Airtight Games and SQUARE ENIX.

Winner of ten E3 Awards, MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT takes players into a whole new realm of mystery where the case is personal and the clues just out of reach.  A new take on the action/adventure genre, MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT challenges players to solve possibly the hardest case of all…their own murder.
